May 27-28 – Northern Venice

We explored the magnificent city of Stockholm, and many of its 14 islands, lots of bridges, parks, museums, art galleries and a number of cafes and restaurants. Whew! Thielska Galleriet was immensely impressive (Eugène Jansson, Carl Larsson, Edvard Munch, Paul Gauguin and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec) and we heard a talk from its new director, Patrick Steorn. Other highlights included visits to Svenskt Tenn, home to classic Swedish design and Josef Frank’s fabulously bold fabrics; Malmstenbutiken, where we met Jerk Malmsten, the grandson of Sweden’s furniture designer Carl Malmsten; Acne design clothing store with a new line inspired by artist Hilma af Klint; and Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, with an amazing art exhibition and a Rodin sculpture.
